Areas of Practice
Katherine E. Merck is the Principal Attorney of Cusack Linscott Merck, where she leads the firm's estate planning, trust, and probate practice. Her practice is dedicated to helping families navigate generational transfers of wealth through thoughtful tax and estate planning, seamlessly managing estates and property holdings for clients across the region. Katherine also represents families seeking guardianships and conservatorships to protect aging parents and other vulnerable adults whose ability to manage their own affairs has become compromised. Katherine graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a double major in finance and medieval studies before earning her J.D., magna cum laude, from Gonzaga University School of Law, where she was a member of the Federal Tax Law Clinic and concentrated her studies in tax law and estate planning. To ensure the firm continues to deliver the highest caliber of strategic counsel, she is currently completing an LL.M. in Taxation at Georgetown University Law Center, one of the nation's premier graduate tax programs. Katherine's practice is centered in Idaho, where she advises clients throughout the Coeur d'Alene region and the broader North Idaho community. Her diverse legal background includes service as a public defender in Benewah, Kootenai, and Shoshone Counties, as well as representation in natural resource and property rights matters. Katherine grew up in eastern Washington and has spent her life in the Inland Northwest. In 2016, she made history as the first Washingtonian to win the Miss Rodeo America crown. An avid outdoorswoman and fly-fisher, she co-founded the Gonzaga Rod & Gun Club to educate fellow law students on the legalities of hunting and fishing in the Northwest. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, hiking, knitting, and horseback riding. |
